Cancel culture finally struck out.
Social justice warriors who spent the last several years ruining sports finally picked one political protest they could not win.
And a woke mob tried to cancel this famous college mascot. The response will warm your heart.
The woke staff of the Indianapolis Star zeroed in on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s famous Leprechaun mascot as the fourth most offensive mascot in college sports.
Reporters at the Star tried to bully Notre Dame into dropping the Leprechaun by trying to shame the school with press attention.
Instead of caving in to the cancel culture mob like the Washington Redskins and the Cleveland Indians and agreeing to change their nickname in the hopes they could grovel for the woke outrage mob’s approval, Notre Dame actually defended their mascot.
“Our symbols stand as celebratory representations of a genuine Irish heritage at Notre Dame,” a Notre Dame statement read, “a heritage that we regard with respect, loyalty and affection.”
Notre Dame added that the “Fighting Irish” nickname stood as a symbol of pride for people of Irish descent whose history included a spirit of determination and fighting oppression.
“Irish-Americans — including those at Notre Dame — again have turned back on former oppressors as a sign of celebration and triumph,” the university added. “In both the upraised fists of the leprechaun mascot and the use of the word ‘fighting,’ the intent is to recognize the determination of the Irish people and, symbolically, the university’s athletes.”
Whenever woke mobs would attack teams for Native American Indian themed nicknames, critics of cancel culture would mockingly ask why the PC police didn’t come after the Notre Dame Fighting Irish or the Minnesota Vikings for “offensive” team names.
In 2021’s America, a joking response to triggered snowflakes actually turned into reality.
Fortunately – for once – common sense prevailed.
