Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is in some hot water.
James’ recent attacks on cops created a massive blowback for James and the NBA.
And now LeBron James just got one letter from a police officer that will leave you speechless.
LeBron James ignited a massive controversy when he tweeted out a picture of the police officer who shot and killed Ma’Khia Bryant to prevent Bryant from stabbing another girl to death.
James wrote “you’re next” and many took the tweet as a call to incite violence and hatred against police.
Facing massive pressure, the Lakers star deleted the tweet and claimed he was just angry about police killing another black person.
24-year veteran of the LAPD Deon Joseph posted an open letter to James calling out James for smearing police officers as racist killers and asking for a one on one meeting.
“I don’t know if this will ever reach you, but my hope is that one day I can sit down with you and talk. As a man of faith, I can have no hatred toward you,” Joseph wrote. “But I do feel I can help you understand the reality of the profession of policing, and that there is another side you need to hear.”
Joseph added that he shared James’ concerns about racism and black Americans dying, but that James ignored the reality about police officers being overwhelmingly good people.
“You are tired of Black folks dying? So am I,” Joseph continued. “You hate racism and police brutality? So do I. But you cannot paint 800,000 men and women who are of all races, faiths, sexual orientations, [who] are also mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, preachers, coaches, community members and just humans with such a broad and destructive brush.”
Joseph wrote that he believed if the two could sit down and talk Joseph could show James the error of his ways and that the hate for police officers would drain from James’ heart.
“I think if you yourself actually sat down and had a real honest and open conversation with a cop, there is a strong chance you may discover we are not the monsters you have come to believe we are, who deserve the hate and disdain you have,” Joseph concluded.
