LeBron James has won three Olympic gold medals and four NBA titles.
But that’s not what defines James’ career right now.
And LeBron James just won an award that is the most telling honor of his career.
The betting news company Pickwise just put together a list of the most hated athletes on social media.
LeBron James came out on top as the most hated athlete in America.
According to the company’s survey, James received thousands of times more abuse on Twitter than any of the others on the list. Indeed, James was the target of more negative tweets (122,568) than the combined tweets (106,599) of the other four of the five most abused players.
Pickswise reviewed the tweets spanning June 2020 to June 2021, looking for messages that contained “words, phrases and hashtags that were known abusive terms” against pro athletes.
Most of this is due to James’ woke politics.
James was a vocal leader of the Black Lives Matter movement in the NBA.
This past spring, James courted controversy by posting the picture of a police officer who shot and killed a 16-year-old girl before she could stab another girl to the death with the message “You’re next,” which many took as a call to harass or send death threats to the cop.
But James’ performance in this year’s NBA playoffs didn’t help his cause either.
James whined about having to start the season in December after finishing the coronavirus delayed 2020 season in the fall.
When James’ Lakers lost in the first round to the Phoenix Suns James stormed off the court before the elimination game ended and didn’t shake hands with the Suns players.
Once upon a time James was looked at like the successor to Michael Jordan.
Now James falls into the Dennis Rodman category of NBA villains.
