No matter the situation, it’s always entertaining to watch someone who wholeheartedly believes they’re the smartest person in the room prove the exact opposite.

It’s even more entertaining to watch such a scenario unfold on national television for the entire world to see.

And that’s exactly what happened to one of the most selfish players in NFL history as he tried to make Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger look dumb, only to get egg all over his face.

When you mention the name Brandon Marshall, most NFL fans will roll their eyes.

Marshall was the ultimate diva wide receiver, constantly complaining about not getting the ball enough, while being a cancer in virtually every NFL locker room he was a part of.

This is a guy who made tens of millions of dollars in a relatively short amount of time, yet he still had his former quarterback, Jay Cutler, pay his gambling debts for him.

Needless to say, when it comes to those who should lecture others on being selfless, and working as a team, Marshall just isn’t one of them.

That’s why it was so ironic, and hilarious, when Marshall decided to go on a rant against Ben Roethlisberger, suggesting that the Pittsburgh quarterback was somehow selfishly changing run plays to pass plays to satisfy his own ego.

The lack of self-awareness Brandon Marshall possesses is mind-boggling.

Keep in mind, prior to being upset by the Washington Football Team on Sunday after having just four days of rest between games, the Pittsburgh Steelers were the last undefeated team left in the NFL.

And most of the Steelers’ success hinged on Roethlisberger – who is 38-years-old and coming off a 2019 season where he had to sit out the majority of it with an elbow injury – having a resurgent season, and efficiently leading his team’s offense.

But aside from the fact that it’s really weird for a notoriously selfish player to attempt to throw someone else under the bus for having an ego, Marshall’s entire point simply makes zero sense.

Of course Ben Roethlisberger is changing plays at the line of scrimmage – that’s literally an NFL quarterback’s job.

Every single starting quarterback in the NFL receives a playcall from his offensive coordinator, lines the team up, evaluates the defense’s alignment, and is required to call an audible if necessary.

This is something that happens dozens of times in every NFL game played, not a move by an egotistical quarterback trying to jack up his own stats.

You would think a guy who played on the offensive side of the ball for 13 seasons in the NFL would know that.

But not Brandon Marshall.

Once again, Marshall let his ego get the best of him, making him look foolish in the process.

As Mark Twain famously said, “It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt.”

When it comes to Brandon Marshall, there is no longer any doubt.
