Political protests in sports have gone too far.
It’s gone beyond just kneeling for the national anthem.
And now one U.S. Olympic Athlete claimed this was the moment they would burn the American flag.
Chelsea Wolfe will represent Team USA this summer at the Tokyo Olympics as part of the BMX Freestyle Bike riding event.
Wolfe is transgender and very angry over laws passed to protect women’s sports from biological males like Wolfe.
In March 2020, Wolfe claimed his goal was to win an Olympic medal so he could burn the U.S. flag on the podium in protest of Donald Trump’s support for banning biological males from playing girls sports.
“My goal is to win the Olympics so I can burn a US flag on the podium,” Wolfe posted on Facebook. “This is what they focus on during a pandemic. Hurting trans children.”
Astoundingly, Wolfe claimed his intention to burn the American flag during a ceremony where the national anthem played was not meant as any indication Wolfe hates America.
Instead, Wolfe stated that burning the flag on the medal stand at the Olympics was a protest against fascism.
“Anyone who thinks that I don’t care about the United States is sorely mistaken,” Wolfe said in an interview with Fox News. “One of the reasons why I work so hard to represent the United States in international competition is to show the world that this country has morals and values, that it’s not all of the bad things that we’re known for. I take a stand against fascism because I care about this country, and I’m not going to let it fall into the hands of fascists after so many people have fought and sacrificed to prevent fascism from taking hold abroad. As a citizen who wants to be proud of my home country, I’m sure as hell not going to let it take hold here.”
Wolfe is now the one athlete on Team USA who Americans don’t want to see win a medal.
