Professional sports in America have been heavily politicized over the past few years.
From Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem to the constant political posturing from NBA stars like Lebron James to Kyrie Irving, the Left is alienating half the country from watching their favorite teams.
But now, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) just made this one rule for the Tokyo Olympics that will have “woke” leftists fuming.
The IOC (the governing body in charge of facilitating the Olympic Games) isn’t playing around.
Although American politics has been infused into its professional sports leagues for years, the IOC just isn’t going to put up with it.
According to Outkick.com, Kristy Coventry, the IOC’s Athletes Commission Chief, said that “a very clear majority of athletes said that they think it’s not appropriate to demonstrate or express their views on the field of play, at the official ceremonies, or at the podium. So, our recommendation is to preserve the podium, field of play, and official ceremonies from any kind of protests or demonstrations or acts perceived as such.”
Clearly, the majority of athletes believe protesting at the Olympics is inappropriate, and most of the general public would agree with them.
The Olympics is a politically neutral event where the best athletes in the world compete for medals but also represent their home country on an international stage.
With American discourse as divisive as ever, people will be tuning into the Olympics looking for a break from politics and a chance to root for their country, something that every American should be excited about.
According to the IOC, athletes who choose to violate the protest ban will be formally punished, but the punishment has not yet been decided.
The IOC definitely deserves some credit for not bowing down to the deranged far-Left and sticking up for the majority of sports fans who just want to watch sports and root for America.
