The NFL’s offseason got off to a horrific start when a former Pro Bowl player was found dead.

There was no announced cause of death.

And now the mystery surrounding this NFL star’s death just took one strange turn.

Former Tampa Bay and Los Angeles Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson was found dead on Monday by staff at a hotel in Branden, Florida.

There were no signs of foul play and no immediate cause of death.

Now new details are emerging that could solve the mystery of how Jackson passed away.

New evidence indicates Jackson may have been dead for several days as on February 13th and 14th staff saw Jackson slumped over a chair and thought he was sleeping.

WFLA in Florida reports:

A preliminary report from the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner Department says staff members at the hotel went into Jackson’s room on Feb. 13 and Feb. 14 and found him sitting slouched over on the couch and assumed he was sleeping.

The report says the staff members went into Jackson’s room again the morning of Feb. 15 and “were concerned when they found [him] in the same position.” The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said earlier this week a housekeeper found Jackson dead in his hotel room around 11:30 a.m.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff told the press that Jackson’s family believed Jackson died from alcohol abuse that resulted from trauma developed while he played in the NFL.

“We haven’t got the toxicology report back, so we can’t say with any certainty that that was it, but a lot of long-standing health conditions that contributed to his passing because of some alcohol abuse,” Sheriff Chronister. “[The family believes] wholeheartedly that all of these actions are a result of what he suffered from while he played in the NFL.”
