The U.S. women’s soccer team courted controversy with their national anthem protests and left-wing political activists.

Led by Megan Rapinoe, the U.S. women’s soccer team served as one of the faces of the “woke Olympics.”

But now the U.S. women’s soccer team just suffered this Olympic shocker.

The U.S. women’s soccer team blew its chance at a Gold Medal by losing 1-0 to Canada in the semifinals of the Olympic tournament.

After the game, Rapinoe – who once boasted about not wanting to visit the White House while Donald Trump was President – expressed disappointment at the team’s play in the loss.

“It’s terrible. We just didn’t have it today,” Rapinoe told reporters. “Just too many errors from us again. I felt like the space was there for us to play and we just couldn’t get into it, too many touches or, you know, an errant touch.”

Canada scored their one goal on a penalty kick in the 75th minute by Jessie Fleming, which led to Rapinoe bemoaning the fact that the U.S. outplayed Canada, but came up on the losing end.

“That’s football. They got, I think, one shot on goal, a PK, and from what it sounds like it was a PK. So yeah, it’s a bitter one to swallow. Obviously we never want to lose to Canada. I don’t think I’ve ever lost to Canada,” Rapino added.

Rapino called the loss “bitter.”

“So it’s a bitter one. Obviously there’s still a lot to compete for. That’s what I told the girls and what we talked about in the huddle. It’s not the color we want, but there’s still a medal on the line. That’s a huge thing and we want to win that game, but yeah, this is . . . this sucks. It sucks,” Rapino added.

The U.S. women’s soccer team knelt on the field to protest in support of Black Lives Matter before their opening game against Sweden, which the U.S. lost.

Americans branded these Olympics the “woke Olympics” because of all the protests and political messaging.

The U.S. women’s soccer team is at the forefront of everyone’s mind when they came up with that branding.

And now Megan Rapinoe and her teammates are going to have a lot to think about knowing they’re no longer playing for gold and many Americans are actually happy they lost.
