Whether it is professional football, basketball, or women’s Olympic shot put, woke politics have taken over sports, and are arguably ruining them.
Gone are the days of being able to kick back, enjoy a cold beer, and cheer on your team and favorite players with your friends without being reminded of every radical leftist social justice project.
And while most American athletes are afraid to stand up against this radicalism, this world famous sports star confronted LeBron about his woke activism.
Recently, world-famous Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic defied the critics and did just that by confronting the King of woke sports himself, LeBron James.
In a recent interview with France Football, Ibrahimovic described what he told Lebron James during the confrontation.
“I said that we are not politicians. Politics divides people,” Ibrahimovic said.
“Football, in my world, unites people. Big difference. Because I have had the chance to meet and get to know people that I would never have known if I did not play football. I have met people from all four corners of the world. We unite people. Politicians divide. If I wanted to be a politician, I would do politics. We should only do what we’re good at. Sports and politics are two different categories. If you are intelligent, you understand.”
Ibrahimovic then said “he is not here to send a bad message.”
Wow. Finally . . . an athlete who is willing to talk some sense.
James responded by saying, “There’s no way I would ever just stick to sports because I understand how this platform and how powerful my voice is.”
This sort of self-righteousness is exactly the reason why people are tuning out of the National Basketball Association.
As you may remember, James has come under fire for targeting individual police officers who responded to violent criminals with force by tweeting their pictures with the caption “YOU’RE NEXT.”
That should terrify us all.
But fear not, because all is not lost in the sports world, as there are many athletes who are still giving fans a reason to buy tickets.
A perfect example that comes to mind is Baker Mayfield’s (quarterback of the Cleveland Browns) legendary beer chug, which energized fans at a Cleveland Indians baseball game.
If that doesn’t give you goosebumps then sports just isn’t for you.
That is exactly what fans want to pay to see while they’re at the game, not this.
