Sometimes it feels like Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady will play forever.

But for the first time ever it looks like the end is near.

And that’s because Tom Brady just dropped this shocking hint about retirement.

On Sunday, the Los Angeles Rams won a thrilling 30-27 NFC Divisional Playoff game against Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Rams were the third straight team in the Divisional Playoffs to advance on a last second field goal as part of the greatest 48 hours in NFL history.

After the game, Brady for the first time discussed retirement as a serious possibility.

“It pains her to see me get hit out there,” Brady said about his supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen. “And she deserves what she needs from me as a husband and my kids deserve what they need from me as a dad.”

Brady previously expressed his desire to play until he was 45, which would take him through the 2022 season.

But after the crushing defeat to the Rams, Brady admitted he would discuss his status for next season and make a decision about his future.

“I said this a few years ago, it’s what relationships are all about. It’s not always what I want. It’s what we want as a family. And I’m gonna spend a lot of time with them and figure out in the future what’s next,” Brady added.

Even though Brady nearly led the Bucs back from a 27 to 3 deficit and played a fine game on Sunday, Brady sounded unsure about his ability to play at his normal level.

“The team doesn’t deserve anything less than my best,” Brady continued. “And if I feel like I’m not committed to that, or I can’t play at a championship level, then you gotta give someone else a chance to play. And, you know, we’ll see.”

Tampa Bay coach Bruce Arians stated his belief that Brady would play next year.

And there was no hint during the 2021 season – where Brady threw for 43 touchdown passes – that Brady’s play dropped off.

Brady’s not used to losing early in the playoffs.

The vast majority of Brady’s playoff defeats occurred in the conference title game or the Super Bowl.

Brady’s response could be an emotional reaction to a brutal loss.

However, for the first time in his career Tom Brady appeared to confront his sports mortality.
